Polycom Frees Users from Vendor Lock-In with Support for TIP, Allowing Non-Standards-Based Video Systems to Connect with Polycom Standards-Based Video Systems

Polycom(r) RealPresence(tm) Platform software update connects non-standard TIP TelePresence Systems to standards-based video systems, extends interoperability across UC environments

Polycom, Inc., the global leader in standards-based unified communications (UC), announced a new software update to the Polycom(r) RealPresence(tm) Platform that allows customers using Polycom and other standards-based video collaboration solutions to join calls with non-standard Cisco telepresence systems, and vice-versa. The latest RealPresence Platform software update, released today, also further extends interoperability across Microsoft and IBM UC environments.

Affordable interoperability. The Polycom software helps reduce costs and complexity by eliminating the need for gateways and licenses.

Ease of use. By deploying the Polycom(r) RMX(r) universal collaboration server within the platform, organizations can connect non-standard TIP systems to multi-party calls-simply by dialing into a video conference virtual meeting room.

Reliable, enterprise-quality multi-party collaboration. Polycom's virtualization management capabilities (Polycom(r) DMA(tm) 7000) efficiently distribute calls across massively scaled networks, while auto failover protections ensure that services remain available even if servers go down.

Investment Protection. Organizations can add standards-based Polycom video solutions that work seamlessly with existing equipment.

Broadening the Reach of the First Open 'Video Cloud'
Polycom's latest software update also benefits the fast-growing community of "video as a service" providers. For enterprises and service providers alike, increased interoperability is a valuable roadblock-remover, as demonstrated by the newly incorporated Open Visual Communications Consortium(tm) (OVCC(tm)). The OVCC is an independent, expanding group of global video exchange providers, network providers, and equipment providers that was co-conceived by Polycom and leading global service providers to expand open video communications across any network, vendor platform, and device.

Hall Research Announces Audio Delay Box with Digital and Analog I/O

TUSTIN, CA - Hall Research, www.hallresearch.com,  announces the release of the AD-340 Universal Audio Delay Processor. This compact device can add delay to stereo as well as multi-channel bitstream Audio signals. Audio delay has traditionally played an important role in large venue sound reinforcement systems, however the increasing prevalence of high definition video has created a new niche due to the time required to process HD video causing lip-sync issues. The AD-340 provides both analog (L/R) and digital (SPDIF) inputs and outputs, enabling conversion between analog stereo to LPCM or vice versa.

For advanced control, the AD-340 connects to a PC via USB port. No special drivers are needed and Hall Research provides a free software utility that allows advanced  features such as: selection of sample rate for analog inputs, temperature compensation of delay calculation for a given distance, and gain level control of analog inputs and outputs. The AD-340 is designed and manufactured in Southern California and is available at a suggested retail price of $295.

Vaddio Announces DomeVIEW HD Series Dome Enclosures for HD-20 / HD-18 Cameras

Stop by Booth 1963 at InfoComm to see the new domes. InfoComm Free VIP Pass Code: VAD0409

Vaddio's DomeVIEW HD Series Dome Enclosures for Vaddio cameras provide integrators with a secure camera housing designed to protect the PTZ camera against damage that can be caused when cameras are exposed to the elements and vandalism. The clear and smoked optically correct domes provide for distortion-free viewing that allows the camera operator to position the camera anywhere within its pan/tilt range.

“Dome camera housings have always proved to be a challenge to our integrators,” explained Vaddio President, Rob Sheeley. “As most of the existing dome enclosure manufactures design their products to be used in security applications, they tend to introduce visual distortion, reflection and glare when trying to support a broadcast quality PTZ camera. The DomeVIEW product line now gives integrators a broadcast quality dome.  ”The Series includes an Indoor Flush Mount Dome, Indoor Pendant Mount Dome and a light-duty Weather-Resistant Outdoor Pendant Dome. Each enclosure includes a 12-inch optical-grade polycarbonate dome (clear or smoke-tinted depending on dome type), metal back cans and mounting hardware.

Tightrope Media Systems Carousel – Redefining Digital Signage

As the industry continues to evolve, so too does the ease with which signage users can control content, from start to finish. How it works Content, in many regards, is the foundation of digital signage. And as more businesses and organizations venture into the digital signage field, they want the ability to post what they want, when they want and how they want. But often, they lack the know-how. Also, organizations may have strict branding guidelines that must be followed.

Photobucket
A template, such as the one Tightrope Media, www.trms.com, used in the Port Authority bus terminal, offers an easy way to update the content of digital signage, keeping the message relevant.
Premade, professionally designed digital signage channels with content templates allow anyone to create a compelling message. The foundation of easy-to-use technology is a Web browser interface, which allows users to key-in information and upload images with a few clicks of a mouse.

Tightrope has created a browser-based system, Carousel, that uses simple templates as a starting point for users. Carousel is a signage system that makes untrained users look like designers and encourages them to use the system over traditional alternatives. To better manage the increased amount of demand for screen real estate, software should separate signage screens into any desired number of segments, or zones. A variety of different templates should be available, so users can simply click on the area where they want to add content. Within minutes, images and graphics can be uploaded and text can be keyed in.

Tightrope also has designers available to help a company custom brand its digital signage. Software that is completely Web-based allows users to access and make modifications and updates at any place with an Internet connection. The technology should be powerful enough to host and run several types of media at once, from streaming video to dynamic graphics and RSS feeds that crawl across the screen. Some programs, like Tightrope’s, support a robust set of interactive capabilities, which can be used in college campuses and airports for wayfinding.

If it’s fun to use and makes them look creative and smart they’ll continue to come back to it, which makes the stake holders look smart for choosing Tightrope media.

The World Might Be Flat After All

CES 2011
A review by Logan Enright

This writer thinks it’s possible there will never be flying cars. Every sci-fi writer from Jules Verne through Ray Bradbury and Rod Serling has referenced them for over one hundred years. None of those visionaries considered the astonishingly simple reality upon us now: everything you can think of can be accessed instantly through flat panel devices of all sizes.
